柔红霉素为周期非特异性抗肿瘤药，作用机制在于细胞的核酸合成过程，能直接与DNA结合，阻碍DNA合成和依赖DNA的RNA合成反应。阿糖胞苷在体内经脱氧胞苷激酶催化成二或三磷酸胞苷，进而抑制DNA多聚酶的活性而影响DNA合成；也可掺入DNA中干扰其复制，使细胞死亡。S期细胞对之最敏感，属周期特异性药物。

柔红霉素与阿糖胞苷联用的“7+3”方案，是临床上治疗AML的标准方案。将两种药物同时包封在脂质体内的复方柔红霉素/阿糖胞苷脂质体，对于老年AML，在有效性和安全性上优于传统“7+3”方案。

盐酸柔红霉素/阿糖胞苷脂质体VYXEOS是Celator（现并入JAZZ制药）开发的新型复方脂质体制剂，规格为44mg柔红霉素和100mg阿糖胞苷，适应症为成人急性髓系白血病（T-AML）或AML伴骨髓发育不良相关改变（AML-MRC）。目前仿制注册申报路径为3类。
