盐酸多柔比星是蒽环类拓扑异构酶Ⅱ抑制剂，有强烈的细胞毒性作用。静脉给药注射后与血浆蛋白结合率很低，迅速分布于心、肾、肝、脾、肺组织中，但不能透过血-脑脊液屏障。主要在肝内代谢，经胆汁排泄，50%以原型排出、23%以具活性的多柔比星代谢物阿霉醇排出，在6小时内仅5%-10%从尿液中排泄
脂质体剂型大大减少了蒽环类药物的心脏毒性，长循环的设计使其通过EPR效应被动靶向至肿瘤部位。
盐酸多柔比星脂质体注射液参比制剂为J&J公司的DOXIL/CAELYX，规格20mg/10mL和50mg/25mL，适应症为卵巢癌、AIDS相关的卡氏肉瘤和多发性骨髓瘤。
